For 2025, the Nissan Frontier gets an appreciable glow-up. One of the mainstays in the segment — along with the Toyota Tacoma — the Frontier got a complete makeover a few years ago, and a significant update for this year. The Frontier is available in King Cab and Crew Cab versions, and despite growing a bit in recent years, it still fits in most home garages.
It can be had in five trims: S, SV, Pro-X, Pro-4X, and SL. The S base trim is the most basic but does include features like an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and active safety and driver assist systems like adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. Top SL models bring leather upholstery, Fender premium audio, surround-view camera system, and much more.
Let’s take a look inside the 2025 Nissan Frontier.
Passenger Room and Comfort
At the forefront of the 5-passenger 2022 Nissan Frontier are NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats. They offer a nice blend of comfort and lateral support and are good for the long haul. Once you get past the entry-level S trim, the driver gets a 6-way power-adjustable seat with 2-way lumbar support. If you want those seats heated, that’s optional on the SV and higher trim, or standard on the top-end SL model.
In the popular Crew Cab model, second-row occupants share a 60/40 split bench seat that is typical for pickups ready to haul more than two people. Those three second-row riders aren’t going to be cramped, but they’re not going to feel like they’re heading to a red-carpet gala either. Leg room back there is 33.2 inches. Not microscopic, but less than the Ford Ranger by more than an inch and less than GM’s lineup as well, but only by a tenth of an inch. King Cab models have a pair of jump seats.
Features and Tech
Nissan designers look to build on what they’d done a few years ago when giving the Frontier its first real update in years. At the head of all this reconfiguration is a touchscreen that connects to the available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an available wireless smartphone charger. Additionally, NissanConnect responds to voice commands and is linked with Amazon Alexa to allow the driver to get a bunch of stuff done by speaking and motoring down the road. The standard touchscreen display is 8 inches diagonally on the S model, but jumps to 12.3 inches in the other trim levels, which makes the optional Intelligent Around View much easier to use, especially if you’re off-roading.
Our ears appreciate the tunes that come from the optional 10-speaker Fender audio system. On the safety front, Nissan offers a slew of technology standard, including lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.
Materials and Design
Buyers of the Frontier S and SV may choose between charcoal and sandstone interior colors with cloth seats. Those selecting the Pro-X and the Pro 4-X models receive an interior of charcoal cloth with lava red stitching; however, if you add the PRO Premium Package, you get a charcoal leather interior with lava red stitching and other features, such as a power sliding moonroof and leather-appointed seating. Frontier SL brings a more plush, highly equipped option, with features including charcoal leather-appointed front and rear seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
There is plenty of onboard storage in the Frontier. Designers did a fine job of creating spaces in the cab to stow things away, starting with the center console compartment, which is four liters by volume. There’s also a small storage tray on the dashboard, and a space in the ceiling to handle sunglasses or other small items. Handy door pockets offer more space, and there is even ample storage under the back seat.
