Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

BMW’s EV batteries consist of many separate cells pressed together. During assembly, the company says, “the force used to combine the cells within the module may have exceeded specifications” and damaged some cells.

Over the course of repeated use and recharging, “this could increase the stress on the module frame and, in rare cases, cause the frame to fail.” That could lead to a loss of propulsion and increase the fire risk.

The company is not aware of any accidents or fires related to the problem.

Dealers will replace some battery cells to fix the problem.
