Ford Adds Tech-Centered Flash Trim to F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning is headed into its third year of production and about to get a field full of competitors. To keep it fresh, Ford is introducing new trims and special editions for the 2024 model year.

First came the Platinum Black Edition, with its matte black look and smoked lighting. Now, Ford has announced a tech-focused Flash trim level that brings some of the advanced cabin technology of the high-end Platinum model to a lower price point by forgoing a few of its luxuries.

The Flash gets the extended range battery of the Platinum, pushing the range to 320 miles. But it carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $69,995 — the least expensive way to get the extended-range battery.

The Flash also gets BlueCruise 1.2 — a version of Ford’s hands-free highway driving assist system capable of changing lanes independently. Buyers will get a 90-day free trial and can activate the system anytime. Buyers can choose a 3-year plan for $2,100 when they purchase the truck or add it later for $800 per year or $75 per month.

The Flash also gets a 15.5-inch central touchscreen in place of the 12-inch model on lower-priced trims and an 8-speaker B&O sound system.

The move should help keep the Lightning lineup fresh in a model year when the Chevrolet Silverado EVGMC Sierra EV, and possibly the Tesla Cybertruck all arrive to challenge it. But shoppers should also note that Ford recently paused dealer deliveries of the truck to enact new quality inspections.

2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Pricing:

For the 2023 model year, Ford attached two additional mandatory fees to every Lightning — a $1,995 destination fee and a $645 acquisition fee. The automaker will likely do the same in 2024 but hasn’t officially disclosed the fees.
