Long regarded for making some of the most fun-to-drive cars on the road, Mazda has also been making SUVs with a winning balance of style, performance, and price for years now. The latest addition to Mazda’s SUV lineup is the CX-50, combining attractive style with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system and available turbo power.

The Mazda CX-50 lineup starts at $26,800, but buyers who want it all can upgrade their way to $41,550 for a fully loaded 2023 CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. What does the extra $15,000 get you? Let’s find out.

Mazda CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus: Faster, More Luxurious, Higher Tech

As its name implies, the range-topping Mazda CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus features a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine rated for 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when using 93 octane fuel (227 hp, 310 lb-ft when using 87 octane). Those are pretty big numbers, and a sizable bump over the base engine’s 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

The CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus also features a long list of familiar upgrades like a panoramic moonroof, leather seating, heated/ventilated front seats, premium audio, and a power liftgate. Technology highlights include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Features exclusive to the CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus include heated rear seats, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, plus front and rear parking sensors. The Turbo Premium Plus is also the only CX-50 to offer a built-in navigation system, although we’d probably still continue to rely on Apple CarPlay to show us the way.

All CX-50 Turbo models include steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, larger exhaust pipes, adaptive LED front lighting and LED taillights, and towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, up from 2,000 lbs in the non-Turbo models.

And just like every Mazda, the CX-50 is covered by a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty, 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, plus 3-year/36-month Emergency Roadside Assistance, which includes towing to the nearest Mazda dealer.
