Mercedes-Benz has recalled 92,851 GLC SUVs from model years 2023-2025 because their side pillars may not be padded enough to protect passengers’ heads in a crash. The recall applies only to models with panoramic sunroofs.
Engineers letter the pillars that support the roof of a car from front to back. Mercedes tells federal safety officials that the interior portion of the C-pillar — the support behind the rear door– might be lined in material stiffer than designers intended. Passengers’ heads can impact the C-pillar in an accident, so that’s a safety issue.
The company is aware of no accidents or injuries related to the problem. Engineers discovered it when reviewing data from a crash test.
Dealers will “rework the roof lining and C-pillar trim” to fix the problem.
As with all recall repairs, the fix is free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has any outstanding recalls at our recall center.
