Mopar Sneaks in Last-Minute Special Challenger, Charger

The 2023 Dodge Charger and Challenger Mopar Editions seen from a front quarter angleWe had just finished telling you that Dodge was closing orders forever on its Charger sedan and Challenger muscle car next week when a representative from Mopar wedged a (metaphorical) foot in our closing office door with an announcement.

There’s a last-minute addition to the plan.

“For the first time,” Dodge’s performance parts division says, “Mopar is producing two matching performance vehicles for the annual factory-vehicle customization program.” The Mopar Custom Shop will produce just 220 copies each of a Mopar 2023 Dodge Challenger and Charger special edition.

Adds About $4K To The Price…Technically

Each package adds $3,995 to the price of the car it’s based on. They’re only available on Scat Pack Widebody models. Those come at an asking price of $54,260 (Challenger) and $56,325 (Charger) without the enhancements.

But we need to warn you – these are limited editions available after the deadline to buy a pair of canceled vehicles. You won’t find them for the listed price.

Production starts in September, with deliveries expected to begin in October, Mopar says. But a spokesperson tells us you won’t be able to order one after the deadline. Instead, buyers should hunt for the dealers that have them.

“The plan is for all 440 vehicles to be allocated to dealers by July 31. Interested customers will be able to find a link to the dealers receiving these models on the Horsepower Locator tool on DodgeGarage in the near future,” Mopar tells us.

With so few of each planned, they’ll go fast.

Scat Pack Plus Vibe

The vehicles are based on the Challenger and Charger Scat Pack Widebody models but get “unique, performance-oriented looks inside and out.”

Inside is a carbon suede package with genuine carbon fiber interior accents and a suede headliner. An Alpine audio group enhances entertainment. They get a heated, flat-bottom, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, bright pedals, and a serialized Mopar instrument-panel badge marking their build number.

Outside, it means Pitch Black Clear Coat with “unique matte-black graphics and Mopar Blue tracer stripes along the hood, roof, and decklid.” Mopar blue grille badges appear, and the same color brake calipers and valve stem caps stand out against carbon-black wheels. “An exclusive all-new carbon-fiber decklid spoiler is being used for the first time and is available only on Mopar ‘23 models,” the company says.

They also include a few performance upgrades, such as an SRT-tuned Widebody competition suspension with Bilstein 3-mode adaptive damping and Pirelli P Zero summer performance tires.

Power comes from the 485-horsepower 392 HEMI V8. The Challenger gets a 6-speed manual transmission from Tremec as standard. An 8-speed automatic from TorqueFlite is standard on the Charger and optional on the Challenger.
