Recall Alert: BMW i4 Frame Cracks

2024 BMW i4 driving over a bridge.

BMW has issued a recall for 1,150 i4 electric sedans from model year 2024 because a major frame component can crack.

BMW tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a left-side longitudinal beam “may not have been produced by the supplier according to specifications.” It can crack near the rear wheel arch in ordinary driving. That could cause the vehicle to deform more than normal in an accident – a severe safety risk.

The company says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem, which technicians discovered during quality checks at the factory.

Dealers will inspect the frames of cars and, if necessary, replace the suspect beam.
