The Lexus RZ is the brand’s first-ever pure electric vehicle for the mass market, and it’s every bit the counterpart to the Lexus RX, the best-selling luxury vehicle in America, that you’d hope it would be. Quiet, luxurious, and high-tech, the Lexus RZ is the brand’s first EV but very obviously not its first luxury vehicle.
Introduced in 2023, the RZ is just nearing the midpoint of its first lifecycle, with updates due for the 2026 model year. However, the 2025 model remains an attractive purchase, particularly toward the lower end of the trim spectrum, where prices are in the middle to upper $40,000s.
Passenger Room and Comfort
As gorgeous and high-tech as every Lexus cabin is these days, one of the foremost aspects praised by reviewers and customers alike is the cabin’s comfort. Part of that comfort comes from features like the standard heated, 8-way power-adjustable front seats and heated steering wheel.
Another aspect of the RZ’s comfort is its quiet cabin. The RZ’s all-electric drivetrain takes this well-known Lexus trait to the next level.
Compared to rivals like the Genesis GV60, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo EX40, the RZ offers similar rear legroom at 37.5 inches. That’s enough legroom for most adults to ride comfortably.
Features and Tech
Even the base RZ 300e is well-configured, with a 14-inch multimedia display, wireless device charging and smartphone integration, Wi-Fi hot spot capability, Lexus app access, and much more. Upgrading to the 300e Premium or beyond just raises the bar.
Among the highlights you’ll find as you move up the trim grades is a Mark Levinson 13-speaker, 12-channel, 1,800-watt audio system that audiophiles will consider a must-have; it’s included on the 300e Luxury and 450e Luxury models.
A 10-inch head-up display (HUD) is also available, as part of a package in Premium trims or as standard equipment in Luxury models.
If you’re a frequent commuter, you may appreciate the Traffic Jam Assist included with the Luxury trims, which can handle the stop-and-go for you.
Materials and Design
Tasteful excellence might be one of the more succinct ways of summarizing the modern Lexus luxury cabin, especially in the RZ. The prominent, driver-focused screen and convenient control layout make interacting with the vehicle as painless as possible.
Standard NuLuxe leather substitute found in most of the range looks and feels premium, and even more so in the Luxury trim, with Ultrasuede seat trim elements.
For a real design treat, consider the Tsuyasumi interior trim available as an extra in the Luxury trim. This decorative film uses multiple layers to create a unique textured look.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
Although it’s just a bit smaller than its famous RX stablemate, the RZ is among the most spacious in its competitive set.
The Volvo EX40, for example, offers just 16 cubic feet of space behind the second row. Conversely, the RZ has more than double, with 34.9 cubic feet of space behind the second row. Even compared to the Genesis GV60 and Tesla Model Y, the RZ has about 10 more cubic feet of space.
Even compared to the midsize RX, the RZ is a bit roomier, with the RX offering just 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats.
