Introduction
In its second year of its second generation, the 2022 Genesis G80 comes across as confident and accomplished. It is also packed with plenty of standard equipment and backed by a class-leading warranty. As such, it’s far better able to compete with more established models like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class than its first-generation counterpart. This G80 is the real deal, with technology, premium materials, and build quality appropriate for such a lofty and demanding class.
For anyone just discovering Genesis, this is the luxury division of Hyundai. These brands are in the same vein as Toyota to Lexus, and Honda to Acura. It’s the newest name on the premium block. Yet, it is fast establishing itself, just for its equipment-to-price ratio, but also for overall quality. We have no qualms recommending a Genesis vehicle.
For the 2022 model year, the G80 gains the option of rear-wheel steering to enhance its maneuverability and agility. The 3.5T Sport version comes with all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard. And Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is added, while the lane-keeping function is updated with Road Edge Detection.

KBB Review Highlights
Yes, the high level of standard equipment is tempting in itself. Bring a German rival’s content to the same point as a base 2022 G80, and the cost difference will be significant. That’s just one aspect of the G80, however. This midsize luxury sedan also fires on all cylinders with fashion, inside and out. There’s a presence to the exterior and an elegance to the interior. On the tech front, we like the crisp graphics of the 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, the driver assistance features’ effectiveness, and the fact that blind-spot monitoring is standard. And let’s not underestimate the importance of excellent outward vision.
Cabin comfort is exemplary. The seat cushions shape to suit virtually all body types. The 38.7 inches of rear legroom are among the best in class.
The base engine in the 2022 G80 is a 300-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder unit that outguns the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The G80 2.5T is sufficiently powered for most situations, while its ride quality and general composure are more than acceptable. In this premium sector, though, extra muscle and added hardware are always welcome. Here is where the 3.5T Sport comes in, propelled by 375 hp from a turbo V6 and enhanced with all-wheel drive (AWD), plus a sport-tuned adaptive suspension. This model also offers the option of rear-wheel steering for even greater agility.
The 2022 G80 comes as a 2.5T version with rear-wheel drive (RWD), offering all-wheel drive as an option. The third alternative is the 3.5T Sport AWD. The amount of standard equipment in every car is remarkable, even down to little details like a power-adjustable steering column. Variants with all-wheel drive also gain a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. The 3.5T is even more lavish, including soft-closing doors and powered shades. Options usually come in packages, like rear-wheel steering, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display bundled with fine Nappa leather, a simulated suede headliner, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
