The Nissan Rogue is a compact SUV and the brand’s best-selling model. It competes with other popular small 5-passenger SUVs such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Hyundai Tucson. The Rogue was fully revamped the year prior, when it entered its third generation. Still, there was big news in 2022, with the Rogue getting a small but potent and efficient new engine. The longtime 4-cylinder engine that powered Rogue models was replaced by a turbocharged 3-cylinder that was both more powerful and more fuel-efficient than the powertrain it replaced.

KBB Review Highlights

While the new 3-cylinder powertrain in the Rogue is unconventional compared to the 4-cylinder units most rivals use, we found it works surprisingly well. This innovative engine makes a potent 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, yet achieves up to 33 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Those figures best several competitors’ larger 4-cylinder powertrains. The Rogue feels relatively spry yet comfortable, and its Zero Gravity seats are a treat to sit in, especially for longer drives. We also give kudos to, of all things, the Rogue’s rear doors. That’s because they swing open wide, a big help when loading car seats, dogs, or gear into the back. Speaking of cargo, the 2022 Rogue has 74.1 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded, among the best in the class.

2022 Nissan Rogue

The 2022 Nissan Rogue lineup spans four trims: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. Unless spending the absolute least is the priority, we think stepping up to at least the SV is a good move, as it brings features like an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, upgraded audio, rear USB ports, more tech like NissanConnect and in-car Wi-Fi, and adaptive cruise control. Stepping up to the Platinum brings premium amenities such as quilted leather upholstery, heated rear seats, Bose premium audio, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. That top model also includes a larger, 9-inch touchscreen.
